Note: This program is currently only available for people who live in California.

Virtual IOP Program Online From Home For Addiction & Mental Health

An IOP Program, also known as an Intensive Outpatient Program, is often used by people who have recently completed an inpatient drug or alcohol addiction program. They can also be used by those who are in recovery but don’t require a full residential program.

Traditional IOP Programs are usually 3 to 5 days a week for several hours a day, and often serve as a continuation of a residential program or treatment maintenance, except in an outpatient setting.

Unlike residential treatment, people in a traditional IOP program are required to attend daily sessions at the facility, and they return home each night.

The Covid pandemic has made it difficult for some people to attend regular meetings to remain sober, either because local meetings have shut down, or people are afraid to go out.

Unfortunately, addiction is a disease of isolation, so when people in recovery are forced inside without the help they usually receive from others, they can relapse. This can cause an epidemic of Covid and addiction, and we have seen a rise in the use of alcohol, opioids, and other drugs this year because of it.

Luckily for our clients, Inspire Malibu’s residential treatment facilities remain open with Covid safeguards in place. In addition, we have started a virtual program for those who are unable to travel or attend an inpatient or outpatient program at our facility.

How Does the Virtual IOP Program Online Work?

Inspire Malibu’s Virtual Online IOP Treatment Program experience offers almost all of the outpatient treatment services we provide onsite at one of our luxury facilities, except all sessions take place in the comfort of your own home.

We’ve found that some people are hesitant to leave their homes to attend treatment sessions during the current Covid climate. So we created a virtual program to provide the services people need to make it safe and easy to stay on track with their addiction and mental health recovery.

We still offer our regular residential and outpatient treatment programs for those who need an in-person program, and we have implemented all Covid safety measures as recommended by the CDC and LA County Health Department.

Our Virtual IOP Program is an extension of those services for those who would rather attend a treatment program online from their own home.

We are well known for our private and individualized medical approach to mental health and substance abuse treatment.

Our customized approach to behavioral health treatment has previously only been available to a handful of patients. But with our new virtual treatment options, our unique brand of services are now available online instead of meeting at our facility each day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Virtual Treatment Program

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about the Inspire Malibu Virtual IOP Program for addiction and mental health treatment.

Who is a Candidate for our Virtual IOP Program?

This program is available for residents of California who meet the following requirements…

  • New patients who do NOT require a higher level of care, such as detox, residential treatment, or a partial hospitalization day program (PHP).
  • Current Patients who have been through higher levels of care and are appropriate for an Intensive Outpatient Program off-site. Often times these are patients who may not live in close proximity to our clinical offices but want to maintain their continuum of care with us and build on the work they have already accomplished.

How Do We Drug Test?

If you are attending our Virtual IOP Program for the purpose of recovering from a substance use disorder, we require regular drug testing. We will help you find a local collection site (e.g., Quest) to submit urine samples as prescribed by our doctor.

Do You Take Insurance?

Yes. We will bill your insurance for you, however, any costs your insurance does not pay will be your responsibility and will be deducted from the total cost per month. We will help you figure out how much you will have to pay “out-of-pocket” for the services if that is necessary.

What Does the Program Include?

The program can be customized, however, the general basic program includes 9 hours per week of group clinical services and one individual session with a clinician.

How Does the Program Work?

The Inspire Malibu Virtual IOP Program is exactly the same as our on-site program with the exception that everything is done online instead of in person.

  1. You call our admissions line at (800) 444-1838 and are evaluated for admission into the program.
  2. Once approved, you are sent the forms you need to sign through a “patient portal” for admission into the program.
  3. Once you are officially admitted, your primary clinician will reach out to you by phone and email to schedule your individual sessions.
  4. You will be sent a calendar invite to your first scheduled meeting along with the schedule for future meetings with reminders.
  5. You will receive a Welcome Packet with instructions about the program, basic rules for the groups, and other information you might find useful. Based on your individual needs, your Personal Clinician may also send you a Treatment Workbook for you to complete and discuss during individual sessions.
  6. Any group assignments to be discussed in the group sessions will be provided prior to the group. These might include items such as an Anxiety Worksheet, Depression Worksheet, Recovery Timeline, etc.
  7. If you have signed up for any additional services, the clinician responsible for providing those services will reach out to you to schedule individual sessions around your availability.

Is Online Virtual Treatment as Effective as In-Person Treatment?

Research has shown that online addiction and mental health behavioral treatment can be just as effective for people as in-person treatment. Your informational packet will include the research you can read to learn more about the effectiveness of online treatment.

How Many People Will I Be Doing Treatment With?

We like to limit treatment groups or “cohorts” to a maximum of 16 patients, but usually, we prefer to keep groups at around 8 patients per cohort.

Can I Join a Different Cohort During Treatment?

We sometimes allow patients to join a different cohort if they choose, however, your primary clinician will always make the final decision about which cohort is best for you and your needs.

What If My Schedule Doesn’t Work for the Times Offered?

We do our best to offer as many available times as possible for you to attend groups, however, space is limited and trying to accommodate everyone’s individual schedule is almost impossible, so we recommend everyone adheres to the program schedule we have set for the groups.

What Happens If I Can’t Make a Group Session, Do I Get a Partial Refund?

It is your responsibility to let your primary clinician know when you cannot attend a scheduled group session prior to the group start, however, we do not offer refunds for missed group meetings.

If I Can’t Make a Group, Can I Make Up the Session Later After My Treatment Has Officially Ended?

We do allow people to make up 2 sessions at a later date if there is space available.

Do I Have to Turn On My Camera During Group and Individual Sessions?

Yes. There will be no exceptions.

What If I Want to Continue the Program After the Time I Have Paid For?

If you decide you want to add more to your program at any time, just notify your primary clinician and we will reach out to you.

*Note – If you are using health insurance, then your insurance plan dictates how many sessions you are allowed under your individual plan.

What If My Insurance Stops Paying, But I Want to Continue?

You always have the option of paying out-of-pocket for additional time in the program.

What If I Decide I Need a Higher Level of Care?

If you and your clinician agree that you need a higher level of care, we do have in-person programs available at our facility that include residential detoxification, residential treatment, and partial hospitalization treatment. If you live in another part of the country and do not want to travel to California, we can also refer you to more intensive programs in your area.

If I Decide I Need to Come to Your In-Person Facility For a Higher Level of Care, Will I Be Able to Continue to Work With My Primary Clinician?

At this time all of our Virtual IOP Clinicians operate out of our offices and so you will be able to continue your treatment with your primary IOP Program clinician in person.

What If I Decide I Want to Add a Service, Such as a Family Session, During My Treatment?

At any time during your treatment, should you or your clinician decide you would like additional services, simply notify your primary clinician and we will arrange it.

Are Groups Sessions Gender Based?

No, groups are not gender-based.

Do I Need a Computer to Participate in the Program?

Any electronic device that has video and audio capability is allowed, such as a computer, phone, tablet, etc. If you are reading this online, you probably have the equipment necessary to participate.
