SMART Recovery at Inspire Malibu
SMART Recovery is a “crosstalk” process group that uses CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to empower individuals struggling with addiction to take charge of their own recovery.
SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training. It is evidence-based and it advances with science. It has no spiritual component, although one’s personal spiritual feelings are respected and welcome. There are no sponsors and no labels.
You do not have to identify as an “alcoholic” or an “addict” to share. A facilitator leads the group in respectful crosstalk that identifies irrational beliefs and suggests new ways of coping.
SMART Recovery is particularly effective with those who struggle with 12-Step concepts like “powerlessness.” It is, however, fully compatible with AA, and many people use both.
SMART Recovery is a recognized for addiction recovery by many of the top health and medical associations such as the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), American Academy of Family Physicians, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, among others.
Because SMART Recovery is science-based, it is constantly evolving to keep up with the most recent medical advancements and techniques that have been proven to work.
