Detox from Alcohol and Drugs

detox treatment programs

Inspire Malibu specializes in the proper detoxification from any drug and or alcohol.

Our Drug and Alcohol Detox Treatment Center

We provide drug and alcohol detox treatment for substance use disorders at our centers in Malibu, California and Agoura Hills, including the surrounding areas of Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Tarzana, Encino, Oxnard, Ventura, and Santa Barbara.

Drug and alcohol detox is one of the most complicated, and critical phases of the addiction recovery process. It’s also the phase that patients fear the most. Many treatment centers don’t offer detox because it is a highly specialized procedure that requires an experienced physician to administer.

At Inspire Malibu, our alcohol and drug detox program is closely monitored by independent physicians who are board certified in addiction medicine and have experience in multiple detox protocols. They are on call 24/7 and available to adjust detox medications when necessary.

Our staff understands how to best manage the anxiety and uncomfortable symptoms that occur during the detox process.

Inspire Malibu was one of the first addiction treatment facilities in California to begin using Suboxone as the latest scientific method of comfortable opiate detox.

Suboxone and Subutex are approved for use in treating opiate addiction, and they prevent withdrawal symptoms accompanied by detoxing from heroin and other opiates.

At the request of our clients, Inspire Malibu now offers several levels of detox treatment at one of our safe and comfortable facilities. In the past, we only offered detox as the first phase of a 30, 60, or 90-day inpatient treatment program.

Should I Fear Detox?

Detox is one of the biggest fears most people have when entering into recovery, and one of the reasons many decide not to go to rehab. When properly administered by experienced specialists, detox can be made more comfortable than expected.

Trying to detox on your own or without proper supervision can be extremely painful and dangerous. But detoxing under the guidance of experienced professionals is a much more comfortable experience.

Our newest program offers “detox only” for those who do not wish to enter an extended follow up recovery program. By request, we can also provide an outpatient detox program for those who meet the recommendations of our director.

Why Drug and Alcohol Detox is Important

Drug and Alcohol abuse has a major affect on the body. Almost all organs in the body are prone to some form of disruption or disease, and prolonged use and abuse can be fatal.

Most drug addicts and alcoholics understand that “using” and “abusing” is harmful to the body but “getting high” is more important than the harm to the body.

At some point, because of necessity, or simply a desire to get clean, they realize the only way to get better is to stop using drugs or alcohol. When they stop cold turkey, it is almost impossible because the symptoms of withdrawal are too strong.

Detox From Alcohol

Our addiction specialists know and monitor specific symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal, some of which can become severe.

Approximately 6 hours after a patient has stopped drinking minor symptoms can occur including:

  • Insomnia
  • Mild anxiety
  • Gastrointestinal upset
  • Headache
  • Diaphoresis
  • Palpitations

Between 12 and 24 hours of drinking cessation, more serious symptoms can occur including:

  • Hallucinations
  • Disorientation
  • Delirium tremens
  • Seizures of various intensities

How Alcohol Effects Your Body

Detox From Other Drugs

A supervising addiction specialist is best equipped to provide accurate and ongoing care for a patient experiencing alcohol and/or drug detox. This is due to the fact that alcohol withdrawal symptoms may mask other conditions such as drug poisoning, amphetamine or cocaine use, central nervous system infection or hemorrhage, or withdrawal from other sedative-hypnotic agents.

Inspire Malibu follows safety guidelines and goals as established by the American Society of Addiction Medicine for drug and alcohol detox treatment, which include:

  • to provide a safe withdrawal from the drug(s) of dependence and enable the patient to become drug-free
  • To provide a withdrawal that is humane and thus protects the patient’s dignity, (and)
  • To prepare the patient for ongoing treatment of his or her dependence on alcohol or other drugs.
