Safe Drug And Alcohol Detox Requires Professional Medical Supervision
Unlike many other Drug Detox treatment centers in the Los Angeles area, Inspire Malibu offers a safe onsite environment that is closely monitored and carefully supervised under direct supervision by licensed physicians. As such, management of otherwise painful withdrawal symptoms in our drug and alcohol detox center is achieved by using clinically proven medications to provide relief during the sometimes agonizing withdrawal process.
Why Medical Supervision is So Important
For many addicts and alcoholics, medically supervised detox can be a matter of life or death. Because of the high level of risk, only a doctor is qualified to accurately identify withdrawal symptoms during alcohol and/or drug detox. Board-certified physicians at our alcohol detox center assess possible complicating medical conditions during the withdrawal process including arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, infections, liver disease, nervous system impairment, pancreatitis and more.

Detox from Alcohol
Physicians at our alcohol detox center know the specific symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal, their severity, and how they need to be treated. Minor symptoms can occur approximately 6 hours after a patient has stopped drinking. Symptoms at this stage can include insomnia, tremulousness, mild anxiety, gastrointestinal upset, headache, diaphoresis, palpitations and anorexia.
More serious symptoms, which can become severe, commonly develop between 12 and 24 hours after the patient has stopped drinking. They can include hallucinations, delirium and disorientation, followed or accompanied by seizures of various intensities.
Detox from Alcohol and Other Drugs
A trained medical professional is essential to provide accurate and ongoing care for the patient going through alcohol and/or drug detox. This is because alcohol withdrawal syndrome can be masked by other conditions such as drug poisoning, amphetamine or Cocaine use, central nervous system infection or hemorrhage, or withdrawal from other sedative-hypnotic agents.
Inspire Malibu follows safety guidelines and goals for detoxification of alcohol and other substances as established by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, which include:
- to provide a safe withdrawal from the drug(s) of dependence and enable the patient to become drug-free
- To provide a withdrawal that is humane and thus protects the patient’s dignity, (and)
- To prepare the patient for ongoing treatment of his or her dependence on alcohol or other drugs.
