These foods are not only bad for the waist line, they are bad for the heart. Everyone needs to focus on their health and that’s why it’s important to know where to find heart healthy foods.

 What are Heart Healthy Foods?

There is no one kind of heart healthy food. There are a number of different heart healthy foods that can be consumed on a regular basis. Introducing a variety of these foods into the daily diet can be highly beneficial because it will keep the blood flowing throughout the body and prevent the weekly menu from becoming boring.
According to the American Heart Association, some of the best foods to eat on a regular basis include:

  • Beans
  • Whole grain breads
  • Reduced fat cheese
  • Oranges and strawberries
  • Canola or sunflower oil

Heart healthy foods can be found, it’s just a matter of looking.  They are found at grocery stores, farmer’s markets, health food stores and restaurants.

Some foods will be easy to spot as being heart healthy. There may even be a red heart on the box to say that it is suggested from the American Heart Association to improve cholesterol levels and improve one’s overall level of health. In other instances, it will be harder to spot what’s considered healthy. This is why it’s important to know how to read a label.

The American Heart Association offers a lot of tips when it comes to grocery shopping. By turning over different packages to read ingredients and look at cholesterol and fat grams, it can make it easier to know what to put in the shopping cart.

Many restaurants are even adding healthier foods to the menu. This makes it easier to dine out and know that heart healthy foods can be consumed. Some restaurants have asterisks or other logos next to the better foods to help people make better
