Effects and Dangers of Bath Salts

The street drug known as Bath Salts is basically made up of synthetic stimulants that are processed and packaged so that they replicate traditional bath salts. Basically, after adding the warning label, “not for human consumption” the manufacturers of these dangerous drugs successfully manage to evade regulations set by concerned drug authorities. In other words, these can be sold legally in stores, gas stations etc.

The sad truth is phony bath salts are way more lethal than they seem. The main ingredient in bath salts is Methylenedioxypyrovalerone (or MDPV). Some of the varieties of this potent drug come with their own mixture such as Mephedrone and offshoots of Methcathinone.  All these elements are pharmaceutically and architecturally comparable to Methamphetamine.

What Are the Harmful Side Effects and Ingredients in Bath Salts?

Because Bath Salts aren’t manufactured by a traditional pharmaceutical company, there are no standards or regulations that are followed during the manufacturing process. With that said, the ingredients can vary widely between brands and will probably include some form of the following ingredients:

  • Pesticides
  • Fungicides
  • Other life-threatening chemicals

No matter how these are consumed, bath salts stimulate the central nervous system and their reaction is similar to that of meth (methamphetamine). The two-pronged nature of the effect triggers the brain to generate superfluous norepinephrine and dopamine, impacting the internal system with dopamine-like methamphetamine and that in turn keeps the user in an extended state of high.

Some of the effects of Bath Salts reported by users include:

  • Anxiety
  • Wooziness
  • Confusion
  • Excitement
  • Illusions
  • Sleeplessness
  • Terror spells
  • Fear
  • Abundant perspiring
  • Increased heart rates
  • Lowered motor control

To track the negative effects of  bath salts, more time will be necessary, but according to some of the recent studies, bath salts can definitely cause brain damage and possible psychosis.

The threats accompanied by Bath Salts are very real. After reviewing the latest reports of deaths due to the ingestion of bath salts, it’s safe to say that hospitals, rehab centers and other medical institutes need to be prepared to treat cases connected to bath salts.
