Dialectical Behavior Therapy Also Known as DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy was developed by Marsha M. Linehan, a psychology researcher at the University of Washington, and was first used with great success in treating mental health patients with Borderline Personality Disorder who engaged in self destructive behavior. Subsequent research has demonstrated that this therapy also helps people dealing with a variety of other issues, including immoderate drug/alcohol consumption and/or addiction.

Inspire Malibu’s use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is one of many proven effective therapies Inspire Malibu utilizes when appropriate for specific clients depending upon their personality and personal needs.

DBT is often used in conjunction with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement Therapy to give clients the most effect tools possible to make their lives easier and less stressful.

Why Inspire Malibu uses Dialectical Behavior Therapy

We incorporate DBT into many of our treatment regimens because modern scientific research has repeatedly proven that it is an effective method for helping people remain calm in situations that used to overwhelm them.

When people are no longer overwhelmed, they can make reasonable decisions instead of becoming desperate and irrational. It is when people are overwhelmed and not thinking clearly that they do things they later regret.
